The final score was 10-1 after a little 2-1 scare.

Lindsey led the way with 2 first half goals. Megan Ashworth had a team high, 2 assists. Haley added to her team leading assist total with one assist. She now has 9. Gretchen also added one goal to her team leading total of 13.

Congratulations to Grace and Claire who had their first goal and assist of the year, respectively.

Northern, Swept Aside

The team pulled off the sweep of Northern this year after losing both games last year. The win leaves Riverside in a battle with Chapel Hill for the 2 spot, and secures no worse than 3rd place in the conference.

Gretchen Scheffe scored the game winning goal 4 minutes in to the game. The play was started by Julia McEwen's drop pass to Grace Sykes, who played a 40 yard pass up the field for a breakaway. Gretchen took on the goal keeper and buried the ball in the side netting to take the early lead. The defense never let up and Northern never got on the board.

This was the 6th shutout in 10 conference games this year. Currently the team is 6-3-1 in conference play.

Playoff Push

The playoffs are only 2 weeks away. Currently the team is in 3rd place in the conference, behind East Chapel Hill and Chapel Hill. With a sweep of the remaining 5 games, (Southern (2), Person, Northern and Chapel Hill) the team has a great chance of stealing the 2 seed from Chapel Hill.

The team has looked outstanding at times and definitely has the potential to make some noise in the playoffs. We'll see how they finish the regular season...
